The Legal Assistant reports to the Legal Officer and supports Sacco operations through legal documentation, loan recovery processes, contract management, and regulatory compliance. The role involves preparing legal correspondence, maintaining accurate records, managing securities documentation, and assisting with debt collection and litigation procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in preparing, compiling, and filing documentation and evidence for debt recovery and litigation matters.
Maintain and update conveyancing trackers, litigation trackers, and court diaries to ensure compliance with procedural timelines.
Manage both physical and electronic legal filing systems to ensure secure custody, confidentiality, and easy retrieval of documents.
Administer the Chattels Security registration system including registrations, amendments, discharges, and proper record keeping of security interests.
Prepare and issue offer letters for unsecured loans approved at branch level.
Respond to internal and external legal queries relating to loan documentation and recoveries.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Legal Officer or Sacco Management.
Qualifications
Diploma in Law or Paralegal Studies.
Two to four years of experience in the Legal Department of a financial institution.
Familiarity with loan recovery and litigation processes is an added advantage.
Computer literacy with strong documentation skills.
Good understanding of cooperative laws, financial regulations, and confidentiality requirements.

Team player with the ability to work independently when required.
