The Sonographer is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound scans and general X-ray imaging in accordance with established radiology protocols. The role supports accurate diagnosis by producing high quality images, ensuring patient safety, and assisting radiologists through timely reporting and escalation of abnormal findings.
Key Responsibilities
Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations and produce high quality images for radiologist review and validation.
Conduct general X-ray imaging and provide films of optimal diagnostic quality for interpretation.
Ensure accurate patient identification, preparation, and positioning prior to imaging procedures.
Identify abnormal or urgent findings and escalate cases promptly to the radiologist.
Maintain patient safety, infection prevention practices, and professional communication during examinations.
Document all examinations accurately and ensure patient records are properly stored in the PACS system.
Conduct routine quality checks, basic troubleshooting, and proper care of ultrasound equipment.
Participate in departmental quality assurance activities, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide patient education, reassurance, and clear guidance during imaging procedures.
Adhere to radiology department policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Higher Diploma in Ultrasound or Degree in Radiography from a recognized institution.
Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences.
Minimum three years of experience in sonography and general radiography, preferably in a hospital environment.
Valid KNRA license and SORK certification.
Key Competencies
Strong ability to perform and optimize diagnostic ultrasound and general X-ray examinations.
Good understanding of radiation safety principles.
Ability to recognize abnormal findings and escalate urgent cases appropriately.
Professional patient interaction with clear instructions and reassurance during procedures.
Competence in operating and troubleshooting ultrasound and X-ray equipment.
Strong commitment to patient confidentiality and safety.
