The iLabAfrica Research Scholar Programme at Strathmore University is designed for outstanding graduates who want to build strong research skills while gaining practical experience in research and development. Scholars work within one of the iLabAfrica units during the day and pursue a fully funded Master of Science degree in the evening. The programme combines academic study, research training, and industry exposure to prepare scholars for careers in advanced technology research and innovation.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must hold or be awaiting graduation with a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related IT discipline from a recognized university.
Candidates with other related qualifications that are considered equivalent to a First Class or Upper Second Class degree in Computer Science or IT may also be considered by the Academic Council.
Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
Should demonstrate strong interpersonal and human relation skills.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions effectively.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Must be diligent, responsible, and confident in executing assigned tasks.
Scholarship Benefits
Full scholarship for a Master of Science degree in either Information Systems Security or Data Science offered by @iLabAfrica.
Opportunity to gain practical industry experience by working full time from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm in one of the @iLabAfrica research units.
Evening Master of Science classes held from 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
Monthly stipend of Ksh. 15,000.
Meal allowance provided at the university cafeteria.
Guidance from an assigned research supervisor to support and direct research activities.
Training and hands on experience in scientific research and specialized software tools.
Training in writing research proposals and grant applications.
Exposure to collaboration with other technology hubs and opportunities to attend international conferences.
Possibility of paid employment with the university if the scholar secures funded research proposals or participates in funded research projects.
Opportunity to pursue further studies to PhD level or obtain teaching or research positions upon successful completion of the Master of Science degree.
Scholar Responsibilities
Attend all evening classes of the Master of Science programme and maintain a passing grade.
Complete and submit all coursework, assignments, projects, and continuous assessment tests as required.
Conduct research based on coursework and publish research findings where applicable.
Participate in research activities including preparing funding proposals and related research documentation under the supervision of the research supervisor.
Contribute to funded research projects and receive compensation according to the project budget when applicable.
Perform any additional administrative or clerical duties assigned within the research programme.
