Zeraki is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Senior Software Engineer (Tech Lead). The successful candidate will lead the design and delivery of scalable backend systems, provide technical leadership to a cross functional engineering team, and drive engineering excellence while supporting Zeraki's mission of transforming education across Africa.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and maintainable backend systems using Java and Spring Boot.
Own architectural decisions across backend services and ensure alignment with frontend and infrastructure teams.
Translate product requirements into technical designs and execution plans.
Build and maintain RESTful APIs and optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability.
Establish engineering standards, code quality, testing practices, and reduce technical debt.
Lead multi sprint projects, coordinate engineering teams, and drive incident response and risk management.
Collaborate with frontend engineers, DevOps, and Product Managers to deliver reliable systems.
Mentor junior and mid level engineers and contribute to hiring, onboarding, and team development.

Qualifications

At least five years of experience in backend engineering.
Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
Experience designing distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and scalable software architectures.
Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
Familiarity with cloud services, CI or CD pipelines, and Angular frontend concepts.
Strong leadership, communication, decision making, and mentoring skills with a focus on team success.
