AGC Tenwek Hospital is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Cardiac Sonographer based at the AGC Tenwek Hospital Karen Clinic in Nairobi. The successful candidate will provide high quality echocardiography services, support excellent patient care, uphold clinical standards, and contribute to the hospital's mission of honoring God through compassionate healthcare, spiritual ministry, and training for service.

Position Details

Position: Cardiac Sonographer.
Employer: AGC Tenwek Hospital.
Duty Station: AGC Tenwek Hospital Karen Clinic, Nairobi.

Key Responsibilities

Review patient medical records, laboratory results, and requisition orders before examinations.
Obtain and verify clinical information to ensure accurate echocardiography examinations.
Communicate effectively with patients and their families by explaining procedures and supporting positive patient experiences.
Provide emergency care using basic life support protocols until advanced care teams arrive.
Share critical patient information and abnormal findings with physicians and other clinical team members.
Request maintenance of echocardiography and electrogram machines and ensure they remain in optimal working condition.
Maintain cleanliness of examination areas and ensure adequate supplies are available.
Train and mentor junior staff in basic echocardiography skills.
Safeguard patient and hospital confidential information and maintain legal and ethical compliance in clinical practice.
Demonstrate Christ like character and comply with Tenwek Hospital's moral code together with Clinical Officers Council of Kenya regulations.
Perform 2D, color flow, and spectral Doppler echocardiography to evaluate cardiac lesions, hemodynamic significance, and pathology.
Identify abnormal findings requiring urgent review and notify interpreting physicians of significant changes.
Respond to emergency echocardiography examinations in intensive care units, wards, emergency rooms, catheterization laboratories, and operating rooms.
Operate ultrasound systems, assist during stress and dobutamine echocardiography, and perform contrast studies.
Prepare preliminary reports for adult and pediatric patients and submit final reports through electronic reporting systems.
Guide patients on follow up care and treatment recommendations.
Accurately place EKG leads for cardiac monitoring.

Qualifications

Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery for Clinical Officers or Diploma in Medical Imaging for Radiology Technologists or a related field from a recognized institution.
Preceptorship, Certificate, or Higher Diploma in Cardiac Sonography.
Basic Life Support certification is required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is an added advantage.
Registered with the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya or the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority for radiologists where applicable.
Minimum of two years relevant experience in Cardiac Echo and other diagnostic procedures.
Strong multitasking, time management, analytical, and problem solving skills.
Ability to learn and implement new procedures independently.
High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Self motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Commitment to God's work and improving community health.
