M.P Shah Hospital is seeking a professional and evidence-driven Emergency Medicine Doctor to join the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department. Reporting to the Head of Department (HoD) of A&E, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality, timely medical care to patients presenting with acute illnesses or injuries. They will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to stabilize, diagnose, and manage patients in the A&E Department, ensuring optimal clinical outcomes and adherence to hospital protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct quick assessments of acutely ill or injured patients, stabilize them, and ensure timely disposition.
Utilize point-of-care tests, such as BGA, Ultrasound, and ECG machines, to provide accurate and timely diagnostic results.
Order appropriate investigations and develop treatment plans based on test results.
Collaborate with hospital staff to monitor patients, review progress, and flag aspects requiring further evaluation or urgent consultation.
Manage perioperative care, including preoperative reviews, obtaining consents, and performing minor bedside procedures that do not require theatre space.
Ensure proper patient disposition, including detailed clerkship, discharge documentation, and handover to consultants or ward/critical care teams.
Champion evidence-based practices, patient-centered care, and service excellence to provide top-tier patient care.
Foster teamwork in the emergency department and lead resuscitation efforts and patient treatment plans.
Mentor and teach junior doctors on the management of emergency patients.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB or equivalent).
Postgraduate training in Emergency Medicine is preferred.
Valid practice license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
Current certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Minimum of 3 years' post-internship experience in a busy emergency department.
