    The Project Officer supports the implementation and coordination of The Youth Café's ALIGN – Advancing Local Innovations for Adolescent Health & Nutrition project by coordinating capacity strengthening activities, sub-grant implementation, knowledge management, donor reporting, and stakeholder engagement across up to 12 African countries.

    Contract Type: Consultancy
    Duration: 2 years
    Eligibility: Kenya, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe (with occasional travel to target countries)
    Mode of Engagement: Hybrid / Online
    Reports To: Project Manager – ALIGN at The Youth Café
    Collaborates With: Action Against Hunger (ACF USA), Emergency Nutrition Network (ENN), CSOs, Youth-Led Organisations (YLOs), and national stakeholders


    Key Responsibilities

    Support planning and implementation of Technical Support Packages, including baseline assessments, mentorship activities, and capacity strengthening workshops.
    Coordinate youth engagement activities including youth councils, scorecards, social listening mechanisms, and co-design initiatives across participating countries.
    Coordinate Community of Practice (CoP) activities including webinars, workshops, thematic sprints, participant communications, and documentation.
    Gather country-level lessons, innovations, and case studies to strengthen cross-country knowledge exchange.
    Support development and implementation of the project Operational Manual and sub-grant coordination processes.
    Coordinate outreach activities for sub-grantee identification and maintain country pipeline trackers across all target countries.
    Track sub-grant agreements, onboarding processes, and maintain sub-grant registers in collaboration with the Finance and Administration Officer.
    Monitor implementation progress of sub-projects, consolidate quarterly reports, and flag implementation risks to the Project Manager.
    Coordinate logistics for sensitisation workshops and project implementation activities with technical experts and partners.
    Support operational research activities, track research timelines, and coordinate submissions with consortium partners.
    Maintain M&E data management systems and conduct quality checks on project data received from participating countries.
    Compile adolescent feedback data, including SMS polling, community scorecards, and social listening findings for programme improvement.
    Contribute to knowledge management by documenting success stories, case studies, best practices, and project lessons learned.
    Draft activity progress reports and contribute to quarterly and annual donor-compliant narrative reports.
    Prepare monthly implementation reports highlighting progress, risks, lessons learned, and upcoming activities.
    Facilitate day-to-day communication between the Nairobi project team and in-country technical experts.
    Coordinate activity logistics with the Logistics and Procurement Officer for workshops, trainings, and consortium meetings.
    Submit timely timesheets, activity expense reports, and support project financial accountability requirements.


    Qualifications and Experience

    Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Development Studies, International Relations, Business Administration, Project Management, Professional Accounting or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
    Minimum 5 years of experience in project implementation within youth empowerment, public health, executive office administration, or international development programmes.
    Demonstrated experience coordinating multi-stakeholder programmes and maintaining project documentation and reporting systems.
    Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams, monitor implementation progress, and identify project risks.
    Experience working with CSOs, Youth-Led Organisations, community-based organisations, youth boards, or government institutions.
    Applicants must be legally authorised to work in their country of residence. The Youth Café will not sponsor work permits.
    Strong written communication, organisational, documentation, and reporting skills.
    Fluency in English.


    Desirable Qualifications

    Experience supporting donor-funded projects with bilateral or multilateral reporting requirements.
    Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems, data management, and progress tracking tools.
    Experience coordinating virtual and in-person workshops, webinars, or Communities of Practice.
    Knowledge of adolescent health, nutrition, or RMNCAH+N programming in Sub-Saharan Africa.
    Proficiency in French is an added advantage.
