The Senior Actuarial Manager is responsible for providing actuarial support to the business while contributing to the company's overall risk management framework. Reporting to the Chief Actuary, the role provides leadership to the actuarial team, supports strategic decision making, oversees actuarial valuations, and ensures compliance with regulatory and financial reporting standards across the Group's Life Insurance entities.
Provide actuarial input into underwriting strategies and underwriting rules for Life Insurance entities across the Group.
Analyze statistical data to determine appropriate risk based rates for new insurance policies and products in collaboration with the underwriting team.
Review product performance based on claims and expense experience and recommend appropriate pricing strategies.
Support the application of suitable reinsurance arrangements and contribute to the reinsurance management strategy.
Work with the Risk and Compliance team to measure and quantify operational risks within General Insurance entities.
Lead the actuarial team in determining and calculating Life Insurance contract reserves.
Develop and implement the Asset Liability Management framework in collaboration with the actuarial and investment teams.
Coordinate business planning, budgeting, and capital management initiatives for the Life Insurance business.
Support enterprise risk management through stress testing, scenario analysis, and review of risk appetite statements.
Ensure compliance with Insurance Regulatory Authority requirements and other applicable regulations.
Supervise, mentor, coach, and develop members of the actuarial team.
Collaborate with Finance, the Appointed Actuary, and external auditors during the preparation of financial statements and regulatory disclosures.
Lead the implementation and application of IFRS 17 requirements within the Life Insurance business.
Prepare and deliver presentations to management and the Board on business performance and the financial impact of strategic decisions.
Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.
University degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
Seven to nine years of relevant actuarial experience within a mature insurance organization.
Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries or significant progress toward Fellowship with a recognized actuarial professional body.
Strong knowledge of statistical techniques and actuarial modelling.
Good understanding of the insurance industry in Kenya.
Knowledge of reinsurance arrangements and structures.
Proficiency in statistical software or programming languages such as SAS and Visual Basic.
Strong leadership, analytical, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Thorough understanding of IFRS 17 and insurance regulatory requirements.
