The Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) has announced seventy-one (71) temporary job vacancies, available on a 12-month contract basis across multiple departments. The opportunities span Administration, Aquaculture, Corporate Communication, Finance, ICT, Human Resource Management, Laboratory Sciences, Maritime, Business Development, Supply Chain Management, Transport, and others. These roles support KMFRI’s national mandate in marine research, fisheries development, environmental conservation and institutional operations.

Key Responsibilities (Overview by Role)
Administration roles include implementing security procedures, asset protection, emergency preparedness, maintaining incident records, supporting security audits and general office coordination.
Office Assistants support document handling, office cleanliness, mail management, meeting venue preparation, and office logistics.
ICT Officers assist in system administration, user support, network management, data systems maintenance and digital transformation.
Laboratory roles support sample analysis, laboratory testing, research data collection and field-based scientific support.
Finance and Accounting roles support financial reporting, reconciliation, budgeting and compliance activities.
HR roles support recruitment, staff records, welfare programmes and performance-related documentation.
Maritime roles (First Mate & Coxswain) support vessel operations, marine navigation, safety procedures and sea-based research logistics.
Supply Chain roles maintain procurement processes, inventory records and contract management.
Drivers handle official driving duties, vehicle maintenance, work ticket updates, safe transportation and vehicle cleanliness.
General Qualifications
Minimum education varies by role, ranging from KCSE D+ for support roles to bachelor’s degrees for professional positions.
Most roles require strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Professional certification or technical skills are required for specialized roles (ICT, Laboratory, Maritime, Accounting, HR).
Drivers must have a valid driving license (relevant class), 1+ year driving experience and a valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
Computer proficiency is mandatory for almost all roles.
