Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA), formerly Bandari College, is a Regional Maritime Centre of Excellence dedicated to developing skilled professionals for Kenya’s maritime and Blue Economy sectors. Established in 1980 and transformed into a Semi-Autonomous Government Agency in 2018, the Academy plays a critical role in enhancing national maritime capacity and competitiveness. BMA is seeking a highly experienced and visionary leader to fill the position of Deputy Director, Placement & Industry Linkage (Job Grade BMA 3).
Key Responsibilities
Negotiate and secure sea-time opportunities for students.
Establish and strengthen partnerships with public and private stakeholders for graduate placement and career advancement.
Negotiate employment opportunities for BMA graduates with international shipping companies.
Coordinate student and trainer exchange programmes.
Ensure graduates are holistically prepared for employment and entrepreneurship.
Establish and maintain comprehensive databases for students and alumni.
Develop frameworks for scholarships and sponsorship opportunities in consultation with the CEO.
Initiate Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) for internships and placement.
Liaise with relevant authorities for international recognition of academic certificates.
Collaborate with the National Employment Authority and other agencies for local and international job placements.
Market BMA graduates to potential employers at national, regional, and global levels.
Oversee staff development and capacity building within the Division.
Appraise staff and coordinate performance management processes.
Qualifications
At least fifteen (15) years of relevant experience, with at least three (3) years at Assistant Director, Placement & Industry Linkages or a comparable role.
Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Maritime Logistics, Education, Development Studies, Marketing, Communication, International Relations, or STCW-compliant maritime qualifications (e.g., CoC, Chief Engineer, Master Mariner II/2 or III/2).
Master’s degree in Maritime Logistics, Education, Development Studies, Marketing, Communication, International Relations, or an equivalent field.
Mandatory STCW-compliant maritime qualifications (CoC, Chief Engineer, or Master Mariner II/2 or III/2).
Registration with a relevant professional body.
Leadership training of at least four weeks from a recognized institution.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Remuneration and Terms
Basic Salary: Kshs. 165,700 – 315,000 per month.
House Allowance: Kshs. 35,000.
Commuter Allowance: Kshs. 20,000.
Leave Allowance: Kshs. 10,000.
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable.
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
