The Manager, Ecosystems Banking is responsible for designing, developing, and scaling strategic ecosystems that strengthen Family Bank’s presence across customer and partner networks. The role focuses on creating integrated value chains by forging partnerships with fintechs, merchants, telcos, regulators, and community organizations. Through digital innovation and collaboration, the role ensures customer-centric solutions, regulatory alignment, and sustainable revenue growth, positioning Family Bank as a key player in Kenya’s evolving digital financial services landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Partnership Development
Identifies, evaluates, and secures strategic partnerships with fintechs, merchants, telcos, regulators, and other ecosystem players.
Negotiates commercial terms, SLAs, and joint go-to-market strategies to maximize mutual value.
Builds and maintains long-term, trust-based relationships with key stakeholders.
Continuously maps the ecosystem landscape to identify emerging players and technological shifts.
Customer Ecosystem Strategy
Designs models that embed Family Bank products into customers’ daily financial and lifestyle journeys.
Develops customer journey maps to identify integration opportunities that enhance adoption and loyalty.
Promotes customer-centric design thinking across ecosystem solutions.
Collaborates with marketing and CX teams to position ecosystem offerings as market differentiators.
Revenue & Growth
Develops and implements revenue models tied to transaction fees, cross-selling, and bundled services.
Establishes KPIs and monitors adoption rates, transaction volumes, and partner contributions.
Analyzes ecosystem performance and provides insights on ROI.
Identifies opportunities to scale successful pilots into bank-wide initiatives.
Innovation & Digital Transformation
Works with product and IT teams to build digital solutions integrated into ecosystem platforms.
Drives experimentation with technologies such as APIs, open banking, AI, and biometrics.
Benchmarks global best practices to ensure competitive digital offerings.
Acts as a thought leader by presenting innovation opportunities to senior management.
Governance & Compliance
Ensures ecosystem partnerships comply with CBK regulations, AML/KYC, and Data Protection requirements.
Develops governance frameworks for partner onboarding, due diligence, and risk management.
Manages contracts, pricing structures, and performance obligations.
Implements escalation protocols to address compliance breaches or operational risks.
Leadership and People Management
Partners with business heads and channel managers to expand ecosystem acceptance points.
Provides updates on project progress, pipelines, and closure status.
Fosters cross-functional collaboration to deliver ecosystem initiatives successfully.
Risk, Process Control & Operational Performance
Promotes ethical conduct and integrity in all partnerships.
Manages partnership-related risks including AML, KYC, credit, regulatory, and operational risks.
Ensures strong internal controls to minimize operational losses and protect the franchise.
Monitors the effectiveness of ecosystem governance frameworks.
Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, ICT, Economics, or a related field.
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in banking, fintech, or ecosystem management, with proven success in partnership development.
Strong business management discipline with a track record of meeting growth targets.
Effective communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas to diverse audiences.
Deep understanding of digital transformation, cybersecurity, platform capabilities, and partnership-driven growth models.
Experience working with a wide range of partners across different industries.
Highly responsive, accurate, customer-focused, and results-oriented.
Strong project management skills and knowledge of banking operations and risk management.
Understanding of digital payment services and ecosystem platforms.
