The Data Engineer will support the Co-operative Bank of Kenya’s Business Intelligence function by designing, building, and maintaining high-quality data pipelines, integration layers, and MLOps processes. The role ensures secure, reliable, and scalable movement of data across enterprise systems while supporting the full lifecycle of AI/ML models to drive business insights and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Gather and analyze detailed business requirements to develop data models and structures supporting insights and strategy.
Recommend solutions to address business and operational data needs and support the preparation of system specifications.
Identify trends and patterns in complex datasets using statistical techniques and generate relevant reports.
Design, build, schedule, deploy, and maintain ETL and data ingestion pipelines for structured and unstructured data sources.
Ensure data quality, lineage, governance, and metadata management through automated checks.
Implement CI/CD processes for data pipelines, including version control, automated testing, and rollbacks.
Develop reusable pipeline components and templates to support quick onboarding of new data sources.
Build and maintain data models, warehouse layers, and lakehouse zones.
Develop and automate end-to-end ML pipelines for training, validation, deployment, and model monitoring.
Create feature stores, training pipelines, and batch/real-time prediction services.
Manage ML model versioning, reproducibility, and metadata tracking.
Build dashboards and visualizations, clean data, and resolve performance and code issues.
Secure BI solutions by enforcing access controls in line with the Bank’s requirements.
Guide users in defining report formats, designing dashboards, and automating reporting processes.
Prepare and maintain documentation, conduct technical training, and support users on data, reports, and dashboards.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or a related field.
At least 3 years of experience in data engineering, business intelligence, and software development using Oracle technologies.
Proficiency with ETL tools such as Oracle ODI, Microsoft SSIS, and Talend.
Strong knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL, SQL, and programming languages including Java, Python, and Scala.
Experience in dimensional data modeling, data management, and statistical analysis using tools such as Python, R, SAS, SPSS, or Excel.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD automation tools including GitLab CI, Jenkins, and Argo.
Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, Spark, and NoSQL databases.
Knowledge of visualization platforms such as Oracle Analytics Server, Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, or QlikView.
Strong understanding of database design, data mining, segmentation techniques, and data architecture.
Very good knowledge of Windows operating systems and fair knowledge of Unix/Linux environments.
