The Baby Minder is responsible for providing quality care and supervision for study participants’ children within a clinic setting in Kisumu. The role focuses on ensuring a safe, clean, and engaging environment while supporting children’s comfort, wellbeing, and development, and maintaining effective communication with parents and clinic staff.
Key Responsibilities
Provide attentive care, supervision, and support to children of study participants within the clinic.
Maintain a safe, clean, and hygienic environment that prevents potential hazards to children.
Ensure all children equipment and materials are safe, well maintained, and age appropriate.
Observe, report, and respond to any incidents, accidents, or emergencies involving children.
Engage, motivate, and stimulate children through play activities, songs, stories, and conversations.
Change nappies, ensure children’s comfort, and attend to their basic needs.
Provide indoor and outdoor play activities suitable for different age groups.
Replenish children supplies and provide refreshments for children and parents.
Communicate effectively with children, parents, and clinic staff.
Ensure children feel secure, safe, warm, comfortable, and well fed.
Collaborate with clinic staff and assist with general support tasks within the facility.
Qualifications
Minimum O level education with additional training such as ECD, First Aid, or related courses.
At least one year of experience, preferably in a busy medical or similar environment.
Knowledge of HIV prevention, treatment, and family planning services is an added advantage.
Ability to build and maintain professional relationships and deliver high quality customer service.
Strong listening skills, flexibility, confidentiality, and self motivation.
Patience, a sense of humor, and ability to engage children effectively.
Good communication skills and ability to act as a positive role model.
Ability to use songs, rhymes, and storytelling to support child engagement.
